Advanced Organic Light Emitting Diode (OLED) Materials
R-Display & Lighting, LLC (RDL) is in business to design, develop and manufacture, advanced Organic Light Emitting Diode (OLED) materials for the burgeoning OLED display and lighting industries. The principle technology focus is to develop superior organic materials called Emitter Materials that directly generate light. Light generation occurs when thin-films of the materials are placed between two electrodes and subjected to an electric current. Industry stake holders consider OLED Emitter Materials the “jewels” of OLED technology which demand the highest premium. Technology distinction by RDL will be provided through highly efficient materials (efficient conversion of electricity to light) with superior stability. The industry is currently without satisfactory Blue Emitter Materials that RDL is poised to provide through a new class of highly efficient and stable phosphorescent emitter materials. Recent advancements have generated interest from OLED manufacturers and potential material manufacturing partners.
Use of OLED displays in smart phones and tablets is rapidly increasing as application for HDTV also starts to take hold. Energy efficient lighting solutions provide additional opportunities to leverage OLED materials and technology. Research and development activities for OLED lighting by RDL, has been supported in-part by New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA). R-Display & Lighting will also collaborate with the Lighting Research Center which is part of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute to pursue solid state lighting opportunities for OLED materials.
Who is R-Display & Lighting, LLC?
Tommie L. Royster, Ph.D. CEO & Founder
Tommie L. Royster received his doctorate degree in Inorganic/Organometallic Chemistry from the State University of New York at Buffalo. He is recognized as a distinguished scientist with 20 years of experience in technology development starting his career at Eastman Kodak Company (EKC). His work has focused on development of electronic materials and thin-film device fabrication processes. The last 7 years of his tenure at EKC were spent directing and managing OLED product development as part of the OLED Display Business Unit. Dr. Royster has been a significant contributor to the advancement of OLED and other electronic materials with a publication portfolio that includes 30 U.S. patents and patent applications. In late 2011, Dr. Royster founded R-Display & Lighting. He will leverage his OLED material technology and entrepreneurial experience to position RDL as a leader in materials for the growing OLED markets.
