5 Things Consulting is offering to start a business book club group. It would be open to small and medium sized business that are at least past the new formation startup stage.
In my own businesses I have found that business owners don’t always have many people to talk to. This is an
opportunity to get together with others that are in the same situation and have similar challenges.
There are FIVE books & ONE article and we will meet SIX times over EIGHT months (no meetings during
November/December). The books will be broken up into three modules plus a final module to wrap it up.
Module One – Culture
We will take time to discuss a businesses higher purpose, their goals and the type of people they will
need to meet their objectives.
1. “Good to Great” by Jim Collins
2. “Built to Last” by Jim Collins & Jerry Porras
Module Two – Strategy
The discussion will center on life threatening decisions to you business. We will also talk about
employee pay plans and how to develop them to fit your vision and strategy.
3. “Great by Choice” by Jim Collins & Morten Hansen
4. “Turning Vision Into Results” by Jim Collins
Module Three – Operations
This is where the rubber meets the road and discussions turn to the operational practices of a company
using Theory of Constraints, Lean Manufacturing techniques and checklists.
5. “The Goal” by Eliyahu Goldratt
6. “The Toyota Way” by Jeffrey Liker
7. “Checklist Manifesto” by Atul Gawande
Module Four – Tracking Progress
We will wrap up with how to track your progress using the 5 Things business plan metrics dashboard.
